The story of college admissions today is a simple one: increased demand has led to increased selectivity. The number of graduating high school seniors is increasing while the number of seats available at top universities and colleges remains slim. Additionally, high school students are earning better grades and scoring higher on standardized tests than ever before. In other words, it’s more difficult than ever for students to stand out. Alas, the college application—especially the essays—offers students a tremendous opportunity to distinguish themselves from students who have similar grades and test scores.
‘But I have a high school college counselor, right?’ Yes, that’s true. However, unlike your child’s high school counselor who deals with an extremely large pool of students and parents (not to mention infinite tasks unrelated to college advising), our advisors focus solely on college admissions and devote our time, energy and expertise to only a handful of students each year.

In most cases, a student’s college counselor simply matches a student’s profile (GPA and test scores) with a generic list of computer-generated colleges and universities. Rarely are key student attributes and family preferences taken into consideration. Additionally, if a student has high grades and test scores, that student is encouraged to apply wherever he or she wants with little or no regard for the key factors involved in each college’s admissions process.
The bottom-line is that other counselors and services cannot offer the same level of personal attention and expertise to help students stand out, tailoring applications to each individual college in order to dramatically increase a student’s chances of acceptance.

In the most unique and memorable of cases, it’s both the WHAT as well as the HOW that makes a person shine and stand out on paper.
